The Hunter's the place for semillons. However, while waiting, if you want a crisp, full bodied, rich Semillon drinking so well now, and costing under $10, you can't beat this wine. I'll demolish it over the summer.

To have this 'run of the mill' wine 12 years in the cellar and drinking beautifully with the color changing to a yellowish tinge with great character in flavor and only costing a few dollars is testament to Peter Lehmann wines

Of the range of Peter Lehmann Classic Whites I've tried this is probably my favourite. It's a little sweet and a little springy... but it's simply not nice enough for me to want more, even at the very reasonable price. I generally like a Semillon but I personally feel I've had others of comparable price that were far more drinkable. A little sour on the exit for me. I prefer crisp.

It's a good value, honest, cheap Sem. The descriptor above is spot on. It's no award winner but, if you fancy it now, put a couple away for 5-6 years. It honestly tastes a bit plain/flat around the 3-4 year mark, though not paint thinner like a Hunter Sem's hibernation, but then, then something strange happens... Usually not before 6 and never before 5 years old, It starts getting darker. Yes in colour, more yellow, more gold, but in personality as well. It gets heavier, not syrupy though it does feel thicker. And these secondary flavours come out. The zest is gone, the lemon is now preserved lemon, and there's a little bees wax flavour in most, proper honey in some. It is not everyone's tea, but if you like it there is no replacement for it. By no means was this wine made for cellaring (disclaimer), but it has been done and some of us even enjoy it.

Have tried this a few times and it is now the only white I will drink on the go! It is light and fruit and doesn't have a heavy sweet flavor which some lower grade white's have. it is clean and fresh and pure, would go well with mix of seafood like crab, lobster salad or oysters. yum!

Barossa Semillon picked early and unwooded, is a little fuller than the hunter style but both can age fantastically especially under screw caps. A vertical tasting 2003 to 2010 showed the development from its young and racy lemon flavours to its toasty and honey age characters. 2004 was the standout, 2006 to 2010 in transition and 2008 on still very natural crisp whites. Andrew Wigan you are a gun.
