Beer-Battered Onion Rings Recipe

Move over avo toast, cos pub food is the latest reason we can't enjoy ownership.

Try out these beer-battered onion rings, and maybe sipping on the leftover beer as you go...

    • 250-300ml beer
    • 2 large onions
    • 100 plain flour
    • 100g cornflour/starch
    • 2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp baking powder
    • 1 tsp white pepper
    • 1 tbsp garlic powder
    • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
    • Vegetable oil for frying
    • Aioli to dip
    • 1
Bitta prep work here... cut your onions into 1cm thick rings, then wipe away the tears.
    • 2
Clean up any brown onion wrapper, then start separating the rings (it's super satisfying).
    • 3
Drop them in some ice cold water and let them chill.
    • 4
In a separate bowl, add your dry ingredients and mix.
    • 5
Now, take your onion rings, pat them dry and coat in the dry mixture.
    • 6
Once it's done, pour the beer into your dry mixture - this'll be your batter.
    • 7
In a deep fryer, heat the oil and when it's ripping hot (175 degrees), it's time to dip.
    • 8
Coat your rings in the batter, then place carefully in the oil, frying for 5 mins.
    • 9
Once it looks ready, take them out and strain off any oil by placing on a paper towel.
    • 10
Pour out another beer and tuck into your freshly fried onion rings.
