Sniff test: A nice sophisticated plum with a hint of umami greets the nose of this smooth shiraz from the cold climate. There is suggestion this wine will develop with further aging even from smelling it. You can almost feel the development with further aeration. Look: Raspberry red in a light way that swirls around the glass easily to reveal long luscious legs, clinging yet not glass staining. Tasting: Decanted: Smooth entry on the palate with medium acidity, raspberry, plum and bitter melon that develops into dark chocolate with a pistachio and vanilla medium finish. Reminds me of a an Eton graduate in a larrikin outfit - fun and simple at first glance yet as you drink, it develops further with depth and entices you with sophistication. Food matching: This wine is of the light style. I would suggest red meat but since its style is closer to that of a Pinot Noir, I would prefer pasta, South East Asian dishes like Thai, Laotian and Vietnamese. That bitter melon mid palate and nutty finish will combine well with the spicy South East Asian dishes and bring out the best in both. Verdict: This is a light and very drinkable wine that should develop further in a few year's time. I love it. Drink and let's drink.
