Pegasus Bay is recognized as one of the Waipara's top wineries. Dark crimson with a purple hue, this revealed a redolent nose with luscious, sweet fruit and ripe cherries. A singing bright acidity and a velvety texture underpin a powerful smoky wine with an obvious tang. I wish my local store stocked a case of this win.

In the tradition of fine New Zealand Pinot Noir, Pegasus Bay certainly doesn't disapoint. A small family owned and operated winery situated just 40 minutes north of Christchurch airport, Waipara's warm days and cool nights allows the fruit to ripen fully, retaining good natural acidity. Expect an array of plum, blackberries, raspberries, mushrooms, liquorice, oak and spice. Quality at an affordable price. Picked up a 2007 vintage for under $60 at my local Dan Murphy's. And if you're ever in the Christchurch or Waipara region, drop in for a bite. Pegasus Bay was awarded New Zealand's best winery restaurant for the last five consectutive years (2008-2012).
