I have now reached the good old age of 72 years and take it from an old man who has been drinking beer for to many years to remember. It does not get any better than The Old Speck.

Compares very favourably to what I used to drink in my Wokingham local. Great that it can be purchased at Dan's. Now how about stocking some Fullers London Pride?

Halfway through my first 6-pack, I'm afraid I'm still not really turned on by this one. Susprisingy light-bodied, more like a dark lager than an ale. Palate strikes me as somewhat unbalanced, too much sweet malt unsuccessfully counteracted by too much bittering. I also find the bittering slightly chemical in taste - though that might be just the kind of hop. It slips down OK, it's just neither exciting nor refreshing on a hot day, and I don't like the afertaste it leaves in my mouth. It's amazingly well-priced right now, and I give them marks for putting it out in a stubby-sized bottle (355 ml), whereas most of the good English ones come in a 500-ml size that writes off the rest ot your evening. However, at 5% it still comes out to a bit over two standard drinks. Don't take my word for it, try it yourself, as a lot of hardened real-ale drinkers seem to enjoy it. I'd just recommend buying a single bottle for starters.

Pretty tart. Tastes a bit like apples. I do like chickens though, so I gave it a few stars.

Tastes like an ale should... A decent drop from the UK none of this brewed under authority of crap.

Lovely ale.. full of flavour. Definitely recommend to beer lovers. One of Britains very best
