I asked: “What is a ‘good red’?” and my wine friend said: “When you find it you will know.” Plainly my friend is a philosopher. He is also astute and I value his opinion. “If you are serious,” he said, “go to Dan’s and ask them to unhide a Devil’s Lair, The Hidden Cave, 2013 Margaret River Cabernet Shiraz.” I went. My verdict: a “good red” - devilish good, a magic red. Others will know, provided they strike before it vanishes.

I'm a huge fan of Devils Lair, their 5th leg red blend and their Hidden Cave chardy are staples in our house. Expected a fair bit from this one, and was not disappointed. I find red blends hit and miss, but these guys just seem to nail it every time. A unique and modern red, but nothing too in your face, with that touch of dark chocolcate that makes it so smooth. Obviously it's all down to personal taste, but as much as I enjoyed drinking this one on its own, once you pair it up with a pizza or tomato based pasta dish, I doubt you'll find much better for under $20.

The reviews provided for a number of reds I've purchased have not lived up to your expectations. This was the same.
