The Valcatrina Tinto is a blend of Portuguese Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet red wine grapes. I chose this wine to try based on my experience with the De Iulius Shiraz Touriga from the Hunter Valley. If you haven’t tried Touriga in a blend previously you might find the wine somewhat full flavoured. It has a slight but discernible taste like a port which is not surprising as Touriga Nacional is used in Portuguese port making. It certainly lifts the body of a Hunter shiraz and is why I like it in the Hunter blend. This is an excellent value for money wine.

I was very excited to try this blend as it sounds great on paper, but unfortunately it's somehow extremely harsh and unrefined. Possibly a bad batch, but this is the worst wine I've had so far.
