If you actually like darker, maltier ales, this ain’t it. The idea of a dark ale with zero body - at least as executed here - is a stinker. With no body to carry it, the maltiness doesn’t linger on the palate, and instead provides a sugar headache with nothing else to enjoy for that expense. Some lenient reviews elsewhere have obediently followed the marketing by terming the beer ‘sessionable’ and ‘easy to drink’. No: without the body to carry the flavour it’s just empty and irritating, not easy and enjoyable. This one’s a failed experiment, and as the first Moon Dog beer I’ve had, an unforgettably bad ad for the company. Better luck next time.
