Smooth, subtle flavour. Seems high in tannin, likely to give you a headache if your that way inclined.

Vintage 2017. This wine was decanted before serving. First impressions were quite impressive, although the wine was a little shy to show its self at first. After some time in the decanter and another tasting with family, we found that the depth and complexity had soared. Complex aromas of cigar box, spice, fermented dark fruits (so much plum and cherry) and a subtle note of fresh leather.. plus so much more. The palate sings - jams and compote, Bresaola, pepperoni and Christmas ham with a lick of liquorice. Fantastic layered structure. The finish lingers well.... expect those jam and compote notes to hang around in the mouth for quite a while. This wine was enjoyed by all. Delicious.

I very recently opened a 1986 vintage Bin 389. This wine was magnificent. It had the freshness and fruit of a recent vintage with the benefits of age. The cork appeared as a recent vintage cork with almost no indication of it’S age. My friend, who I shared this wine with, said later that when I pulled the cork he suspected that I had emptied and refilled with a younger wine but he changed his mind when we tasted it. It had magnificent fruit, completely balanced - just superb. The 389 was only one of 13 bottles of excellent wine we consumed over 4 days, including several good French bottles. I write this after having had to throw out 2 of 8 bottles of 1986 Hill of Grace that I consumed well before recommended drink by date of 2011
