Most vinyards have "updated" their formulation of Retsina to virtually eliminate the resin component from which this traditional wine gets its name and distinctive taste. This traditional Retsina still includes a significant amount of the pungent flavor. The traditional Retsina is either loved or hated - there is no in between. It is quite unlike any other wine. I believe that those reviewers who hated it, clearly were expecting the "updated" Retsina and were shocked at tasting the traditional flavor. Rather than receiving a "bad" bottle, they received one made in the traditional way. Tsantali is an excellent traditional Retsina made for those who prefer its unique flavor and bouquet. I highly recommend it -to those who value the traditional characteristics.
