The world best spirit all time! Once you test it you will never forget!

I was gifted this by some Chinese homestay students, I understand it is a highly revered liquor in China. My son and I tried it and it was an overwhelming experience. The closest comparison I can offer to describe the taste is ...ingesting lighter fluid. It is truly ghastly.

My asian friend highly recommended me to try this, saying it's a noble liquor just like Lafite and Hennessey. Now I can say it's indeed the best in Chinese Liquors by far.

never bought from dan murphy but had the chance to drink this with some friends bought from china, danng its so good i tell you, if i could drink this everyday afterwork i would, too bad them price are too steep for everyday drink, maybe next time...

There are some very imbalanced reviews here, which reflect the fact that the flavor of this drink divides people. "Everybody in China loves it!" ... nope, it divides people in China as well. "This tastes like cleaning fluid!" ... nope, but to an inexperienced palette or one in need of easy gratification, you'll have trouble. It can be a challenge. Just like chilli or licorice or sichuan pepper ... some people try it and instantly love it or hate it. Some keep trying it and then learn to love it. I am in this latter category - I recognized my palette was being expanded and gave it time and tried it a few times and got to enjoy it. Culturally speaking, bai-jiu (pr. 'bye jiw' = white alcohol) has deep historical roots in China and is known to be an acquired taste even amongst Chinese themselves, let alone 'foreigners'. So this will most likely be an instant hit with Chinese alcohol drinkers at a special dinner or other celebration. Therefore, if you can drink this with Chinese people - you will earn an instant level of respect for doing so. Maotai is the undisputed top brand in China. If you are the one who bought the bottle and are politely filling up people's glasses, you'll be a hit! Chinese are often far more prudent drinkers when it comes to spirits - they'll only ever have one small glass before food and the rest will be consumed only after food is served and being eaten. Drink in sips and swallow softly at first to avoid alcohol throat burn. Dan Murphy's only sell the top two or three grades of baijiu. What this gets you is a smooth experience with the least chance of feeling the high alcohol content on the way down (even when its 53%!). You will however have been spoiled with the best baijiu of the lot, so most others will be a step down!! Another respected brand is Wuliangye. If you're buying this to entertain Chinese guests who drink at a celebration - good investment. If you're buying this to just experiment, perhaps go for the Prince bottle first ($99) or have a Chinese mate lined up to give it to in case you don't like it!
