Big and bold?
If Dad’s a fan of big bold flavours, or he’s especially partial to something (anything) off the grill, then Fleurieu Malbec, The Ethereal One, could be just the ticket. Rich, juicy and begging to be paired with a big juicy steak if Dad is so inclined.
…Or soft and subtle?
Reckon your dad’s got a daintier palate? Then a Pinot Noir might be the pick for him! A little more subdued and nuanced than your average red, it’s a lovely lighter option for spring. Plus, as an added bonus: your Dad can now be that guy at parties who swirls his wine about in the glass and asks people if they can pick up on the ‘subtle aromatic bouquet of forest floor and a smattering of woodland spice.
Radical about his reds?
Or maybe your dad’s more of a True Blue kind of bloke? Then Shiraz is sure to tickle his Aussie sensibilities! If he tends towards the big, bold Barossan types, maybe change things up a little and gift him something from a cooler climate, like the William Light Shiraz, hailing from the Clare Valley. It’s a more layered, complex take on the varietal that’ll have Dad feeling like the classy gent he’s always longed to be. We can smell the mahogany interiors from here, mate.
...Or wild about whites?
With the warmer weather edging in though, there’s always the possibility that your dad might prefer a white for the spring and summer sipping season. In that case, might we suggest a cheeky Chardy for Dad courtesy of our mates at CATP and their Fat Cat Chardonnay? It’ll be drinking like an absolute peach as the mercury rises, making it just the thing to split with the old man in the backyard as you reminisce together about what great kids he has.
