This Oakridge is in the top class of Australian chardonnays. Having drunk David Lance’s Diamond Valley Vineyards White Label 1990 & 1992 Chardonnays (no malo, little no new wood influence, picked early, lower alcohol and tight acid) made in an elegant grape fruit lemon spectrum, a style that David Bicknell now doing at Oakridge with the addition of wild yeast. These DVV wines were still fresh and outstanding at 15 years of age. Years ago winemaker Pam Dunsford told me Australian Chardonnay made in the unwood style of a Hunter Semillon (unwood, no malo, tank fermented, picked at lower alcohol and ph 3 or under) would potentially age for up to 40 years however the market was yet understand and accept the style.
