Fresh aromas of dark and red fruits, and oak. Complex and full-bodied tastes of the above, with a hint of leather/earth and oregano. Bold tannins and spicy notes complement a lasting finish. Great wine for its price (in my humble opinion), considering the DOCG Riserva label. :]

When an Italian wine is labelled "DOCG" (highest wine classification in Italy) means that it has passed stringent quality controls including ageing requirements, proportion of blending grapes, preservatives etc etc. In addition, you can't never go wrong with a Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, it just taste right to me. This is one of my favorites, but this is a personal preference.

Beautiful full body, balance of fruit and savoury, very enjoyable goes well with food or by itself, great red will buy again

A full bodied Italian Red from the Abruzzi region. Deep plum and cherry flovours with a great balance and a velvet finish.

Last weekend I did a vertical tasting over dinner of the '08 and the '11. I have been a fan of the '08 for several years, coming from a vintage rated as very good. However the '11 comes from a vintage rated as outstanding, but falling short of 'classic'. The '08 had some very interesting and enjoyable secondary development with most of the primary fruit flavour having changed. The tannins though remained quite dusty and rather assertive when the wine is not paired with food. The '11 though, for me,is the standout wine, and for those wanting some bottle ageing with secondary development without losing all of the primary fruit flavour, then this is the wine to go for if wanting to try Montepulciano at a different quality level. Some briary almost rustic flavour rolls across the palate, with the tannins being powdery but well balanced by the fruit. The tannins in this case appear to be from the grape variety rather than from any oak treatment the wine received. A very enjoyable table wine paired with food, but unlike the '08, very enjoyable also without a meal to balance the tannin structure. The acid is also well balanced, the wine has very good length and ultimately leaves you wanting another glass.

A fantastic wine especially when partnered with a hearty meat meal or game fowl. I served this with slow cooked Osso Bucco and wished I had a second bottle on hand!! A Highly recommended Italian Wine which I am sure will leave you wanting more.
