A well rounded balanced Malbec as only Mendoza can produce,easy drinking

Have reviewed this before a couple of years ago, and the essentials do not change. This is a solid entry-level argentine malbec. Very enjoyable at the price point. Santa Julia, as a brand, is just a sub part of the very respectable Zuccardi business. Unlike the Zuccardi branded malbecs, which hail from Valle de Uco (the supreme malbec area of the planet), the Santa Julias come from the slightly poorer Mendoza area. But do not let that dissuade you - this is a very solid drop. If you are into this style of wine, enjoy! But if you have a special occasion, and want to enjoy really good malbecs, follow the same house but up a price point - Zuccardi "A" at around $20, their "Q" at about $30, or the really great ones, such as "Concreto" at around $65.

At room temperature the tannins are the most immediate in the flavour profile, though it isn’t sharp. Pairs well with fatty meals like pork or cheese.

Malbec is a favorite varietal of mine. The Santa Julia product that is on offer here is truly at the bottom end of the market - it is a simple yet competent expression of this wine style. No flaws. And no outstanding aspects either. If you are used to Argentine malbecs, you would find that this is, obviously, not at the pointy end of that superb product range, but the overall value/quality/price of this one is very good at this lower end of the market. Some will be a bit lost if this is their first malbec experience. If you compare it to the standard aussie shiraz or cab savs you are used to, you may find disappointment. But it is not shiraz! It is not yet another cab sav! At the price, give it a go. Malbec is subtly different in the red wine scene, and many, like me, really enjoy it. And as an afficionado, I only ever buy Argentine malbecs - this a is a varietal that they truly "own" now :) All in all, a great product in the lower end.

I a price wine snob and have successfully proven that cheap wine drinks bad. BUT this Malbec definitely proved me wrong. bought this as Dan Murphy's had a good write up and I thought well if I don't drink its only $10 down. And I love Malbecs and most of the pricey ones that I have bought in Melbourne have let me down. This will stay on my list for sure. The tasting note: Easy to drink. Definitely can tell its a Malbec on the first 2 mouthful and thereafter it does lose its Malbec taste but still has a good red wine with mild tanins.

Easy drinking with a very good price for the taste.
