If I had to describe this wine in one word: anorexic. Sangiovese doesn’t need to be full bodied, but this feels like someone removed the wine and left the tannins behind. There’s a very brief hint of sour cherry, followed by tannins, pencil shavings and the growing suspicion that somewhere in Tuscany a stationery cupboard has been accidentally fermented, bottled and exported to Australia. The finish hangs around far longer than the flavour ever did, a real Candle in the Wind situation. The flavour burned out long before the tannins ever did. Apparently it could just be a bad batch. I’d investigate further, but that would require buying another bottle. Pairs beautifully with water, disappointment and the receipt. Two stars. The second is mostly for Elton John.

I found this wine extremely astringent to the point of being unpleasant. The tannins are overpowering and leave a very dry, puckering sensation in the mouth. If you prefer smoother or more balanced wines, I would strongly recommend choosing another bottle.
