While RWT may be a new comer to the Penfolds range, it is impressive, and well placed among the luxury of the Penfolds collections. Produced from single region Barossa Valley fruit, and matured in French oak, the 2012 vintage is formidable. Sweet, savoury and oaky on the nose, with notes of christmas pudding, ground nuts, liquorice root, and chocolate. A deep black magenta colour, with a palate impressed with dark roasted meats, dark chocolate, soy and charcoal. While drinkable now, with strong and rich flavours, it will be best cellared for peak drinking from 2017 – 2037. Scoring an exceptional 99 points by Andrew Caillard, it goes without saying that this will sell out quickly.
