The rare edition - in the silver box with the Gold bottle with the words "Rare edition on the label" to me tastes strikingly different to the green bottle version without the words rare edition. The after taste is very similar but the rare edition tastes astounding from the first moment hit hit you tongue until you swallow it. The version in the green box shown isn't as nice from the first taste - but five or ten seconds later you realise it is an excellent scotch. I would rank the rare edition as 10 out of 10 - amongst the best over over 50 scotch I have tried. The normal 18 year old edition I would rank as 9.2 out of 10. Interesting when I last went to buy the rare edition Dan Murphys North Ryde told me they were out. When my son went to buy me a 60th present he was told the green box version is the rare edition - which it definitely is not - so poor form there guys!

I was after a nice sweetish mellow single malt to celebrate the birth of my granddaughter. The Scotch "expert" at Dan's who recommended this one. Wanted a really nice sipping Scotch without hard peppery spicy tones that are noted with many others. Unfortunately this isn't what I wanted and we found that we had to add ice in order to tone it down. The sweet tones are highly noted with a longer than expected linger time which was enjoyable. Whilst this was an enjoyable dram and may suit many other palettes for me there are other 18 yo single malts that are slightly better and a lot cheaper.
