I hated this drink. More than I hate my dead mother? Hard to say. She was a callous woman, prone to fits of rage and dour silence. Her painted scowl often made me wonder whether I’d been plucked from the neonatal unit by a fatigued nurse and handed to the wrong mother. There’s a photo of us from when I was about two years old. Mum’s smiling and handing me a half-unwrapped present—coloured wooden blocks—while the gaze from my chubby disinterested face has wandered from her and the cheap gift. The scene always makes me wonder whether things were somehow my fault. There are other memories. I vaguely remember her holding me, kissing me softly on the forehead, and telling me I was her special little boy. It’s these moments I strain to focus on, when she was soft, tender, and bursting with life—much like this shiraz.

This is the best shiraz! It's best year was 2012, which, unfortunately has been long gone. I have never wavered from First Drop, it IS my Fave! Good to see Dan has finally started to stock it.
