I’ve had this in my favourite stockpile for over 20 years and never disappoints. Only problem is my other fav is Jim Barry’s and it always been at a very competitive price.!!

The 2013 Henschke Julius Riesling was to me a disappointment: as a wine it was quite acceptable and arguably without fault. However, for the price this Julius lacked flavour - any assertiveness that it was somehow a superior wine to the half-priced 2013 Peggy's Hill Eden Valley Riesling, also from Henschke, was noticeably absent. This latter wine was a bottler! I have tasted better Julius' editions than this one over many vintages, with some even not as well made as the 2013. This variation can be problematic for winemakers. Unfortunately, some drinkers expect a constancy of excellence with each vintage for the more expensive wines in a maker's range. Achieving this benchmark year after year may be the winemaker's nightmare, so these words are not a direct criticism of the effort put in. That said, the Julius went very well with the old favourite of thin slices of proscuitto wrapped around well-chilled ripe rockmelon #cantaloupe# segments. A taste thrill was the salt of the proscuitto competing with the luscious sugars of the melon and the tangy lime of the Julius. Just right for lazing around the deck on a warm evening.
